Long Time, No Read

Eight months...That has to be a record. I could give a tremendously long list of excuses, none of which you care about  I'm pretty sure at one point I forgot I had a blog waiting to be written on. To try and get back into the swing of things, and fulfill my duties as a blogger, I thought I would start off with a "Reviews to Come." So here we go....

Reviews to Come:
  • Wings- Adriana Pike
  • The Basic Eight- Daniel Handler
  • The Tiger's Curse
  • Dash and Lilly's Book of Dares
  • The perks of being a wallflower
  • The 13th Tale
  • Daughter of Smoke and Bone
  • 1984-Steve Orwell
  • The Casual Vacancy- J.K. Rowling

Books from authors:
  • XOR Shape of Darkness-Moshe Sipper
  • Confessions of a Teenage Hermaphrodite- Lianne Simons
Neither of these books are the type I gravitate towards.
I was emailed a book to review a few months back and unfortunately  I can't seem to find it anywhere. If you are she please resend it.

Happy Reading! -Sara

The Fault In Our Stars
“There is no shortage of fault to be found amid our stars." ~ TFIOS

The book introduces two characters, Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters. The two meet at a cancer support group. The narrator, Hazel, suffers from terminal thyroid cancer. It is at the support group where she meets Augustus Waters whose leg was amputated due to a bone tumor. Their personalities and witty remarks is what connect these two characters together.
This book was so well written and I only wish I was able to speak and think like Hazel and Augustus. I was not even halfway through before labeling it my favorite stand alone book. The FIOS is the perfect love story. It had me laughing , crying and even more laughing. It is one of those books that I plan on re-reading over and over again. This was my first John Green book and certainly is not my last.

Book Review: Divergent

Beatrice Prior has always felt different from the rest of her family. She was raised in the Abnegation faction, meaning that she has been trained to be selfless. Despite her plain and altruistic upbringing, being selfless has never come naturally to Beatrice. After taking her aptitude test she learns she is a Divergent, meaning she is suited for more than one faction. The five factions are, the Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful) Abnegation (selfless), Eudite (the intelligent) and Candor (the honest). From the first page of this book I was completely enthralled. My books from amazon came in this past Monday at around 4.  I began this book seconds after ripping open the box. I was up til around 10:30 finishing it. It has the perfect amount of romance and action. Divergent is often compared to the Hunger Games. I have to say I enjoyed Divergent a lot more, although Hunger Games is a very close second. I can't wait till the sequel, Invergent, comes out on May 1st!

Book Review: Abandoned
By: Meg Cabot
Image: google.com

When reading the summary of this book I was definitely intrigued:

".......But now she's moved to a new town. Maybe at her new school, she can start fresh. Maybe she can stop feeling so afraid. Only she can't. Because even here, he finds her. That's how desperately her wants her back. She knows he is no guardian angel, and his dark world isn't exactly heaven, yet she can't stay away...."

After reading some of her other books I had high expectations,  that's probably why I was so disappointed. I'm a big mythology fan and I thought a modernized story of Persephone sounded promising. Abandon has an interesting premise but the story never lived up to its potential. The story is slow and dragged on.
The main character, Pierce, felt one dimensional. She is characterized as caring about other people and not herself. But whenever something bad happens she blames it on someone else. I found her difficult to relate to.( she doesn't even know who Homer is!) While on the opposite end her "lover" if that's even what you would call him, sounded interesting and I wish he had been included more instead of just the beginning and end. Speaking of the romance in this novel I thought it was just pathetic. She talks about how he such a horrible person and moody. Then out of nowhere "His lips came down on mine....The world vanished around us." She asks herself why they haven't done this before. Where did that come from? I thought she didn't like him? As far as the writing goes it was just a jumbled mess. From the beginning  she talks about this accident and all these problems with John. Not until over halfway through the book do we even get to know what even happened. Most of the book consisted of flashbacks. It would be in a middle of a conversation with someone and then out of nowhere BAM, you are in a completely different event. Half of the time I found myself asking, "Where are we again?" Although there were some interesting parts, I wish she had written it less jumbled and didn't make the story draaaag on so much. The beginning and ending were the most interesting parts. I'm glad I only checked this book out from the library and didn't spend the 20 dollars on it. I really want to give the series another chance when the new book comes out in May 2012.

Book Haul
Barnes & Noble

I recently finished the first book to this series, Fallen. Although Fallen isn't one of my favorites, I am still curious to find out what is to happen next.

After hearing all the hype and reading all the rave reviews I caved in and purchased the Maze Runner books (Scorch Trials and Death Cure) after just reading the first chapters in each of the book. I know crazy right? I sure hope I enjoy them. Thankfully I had a gift card and a coupon so I just couldn't resist.

I also picked up the third book to the "Hush, Hush", saga, Silence. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book, Hush, Hush, and I hope I enjoy this one just as much.

Lastly I purchased Prophecy of the Sisters by Michelle Zink. the cover caught my eye and I found the description to be very intriguing!

"An ancient prophecy divides two sisters--one good, one evil.Who will prevail?Twin sisters Lia and Alice Milthorpe have just become orphans. They have also become enemies. As they discover their roles in a prophecy that has turned generations of sisters against each other, they find themselves entangled in a mystery that involves a tattoo-like mark, their parents' deaths, a boy, a book, and a lifetime of secrets."

At the B&N checkout I was excited to see a People's collection special on the Hunger Games! I've already read it cover to cover and found it very interesting. It's only available till March 30th.
